This illustration is an ode to a portuguese holiday in the northen city of Guimarães: Festas Nicolinas.

Like every Portuguese holiday, there is good food, good people, and of course: “bombos” (drums). And it’s not just a band of drums, not two bands of drums, but thousands of people gather with their drums and make the most unbelievable party.

 

In this illustration made with wax crayons I looked to play with the composition of a big group of people to enhance the hugeness of the gathering.
